ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems

The international standard for occupational health and safety, protecting employees and visitors from work-related accidents and disease.

ISO 45001 was developed by a committee of health and safety management experts to reduce the factors that can cause employees and businesses irreparable harm. Its goal is a healthy and safe working environment for employees and for everyone who visits the workplace.

It works by controlling the factors that could lead to injury, illness or, in extreme cases, death, and it addresses harm to workers' mental as well as physical well-being. For the first time, businesses of every size can use a single international framework to build stronger occupational health and safety measures.

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Information Security Management Systems

The international standard for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system.

ISO 27001 is the globally recognised framework for protecting sensitive information. It is built on managing the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information, through a rigorous approach to risk assessment and the controls chosen for your organisation's own risks.

The standard requires clear documentation, top management commitment, internal audits and management reviews that keep the system improving. Certification is not mandatory, but many organisations choose an independent audit to show stakeholders that their information is protected.

QMS Scheme

The Certification Process,
Step by Step

Rebuilt from our QMS scheme certification process chart. Each step shows who acts.

  1. 1

    Organisation

    Prepares standard operating procedures, trains its people, carries out an internal audit and holds a management review of the internal audit findings.

  2. 2

    Organisation

    When ready for the main audit, contacts an accredited QMS certification body, submits an application for QMS certification and agrees a date for the main audit.

    Not ready yet: continue preparing.

  3. 3

    UGG (certification body)

    Conducts the Stage 1 audit.

  4. 4

    UGG (certification body)

    Conducts the Stage 2 audit within six months of Stage 1.

    Not ready for Stage 2: the organisation addresses the Stage 1 findings first.

  5. 5

    UGG (certification body)

    If a major CAR is raised: issues the CAR form; the organisation corrects it within the agreed time, no more than three months, and the certification body verifies it. Minor CARs need a corrective action plan, verified at the next surveillance audit.

    Major CAR not closed: corrective action continues.

  6. 6

    UGG (certification body)

    Prepares the draft audit report within one month of Stage 2, or within two weeks of verifying the major CAR corrections, and submits it to the technical reviewer.

    Technical reviewer

    Submits the technical review report to the certification body after two weeks.

  8. 8

    UGG (certification body)

    Incorporates the technical reviewer's comments within one week, and makes the draft available to the organisation.

  9. 9

    Organisation

    Sends any comments to the certification body within two weeks.

  10. 10

    UGG (certification body)

    Prepares the final report with a recommendation for certification within one week, and presents it to the decision maker.

  11. 11

    UGG (certification body)

    The decision maker agrees to award certification within one month, and the organisation is awarded QMS certification.
